Does the Matrice 3D work without the DJI Dock?
The Matrice 3D is optimised for dock-based autonomous operations with DJI Dock 2 or Dock 3, but it can also be flown manually using the DJI RC Pro Enterprise controller (sold separately). For teams wanting both automated and piloted capabilities from one airframe, it delivers both.
What's the difference between the Matrice 3D and Matrice 3TD?
The Matrice 3D carries a dual visible-light camera system (20MP wide + 12MP telephoto) designed for photogrammetric mapping and inspection. The Matrice 3TD replaces the wide camera with a radiometric thermal camera, making it ideal for search and rescue, electrical inspection, and thermal anomaly detection. If your primary need is mapping and 3D modelling, the 3D is the right choice.
Do I need GCPs with the built-in RTK?
In most mapping workflows, no. The built-in RTK module — when connected to a network RTK source or a DJI D-RTK 2 base station — provides centimetre-level geotagging accuracy that eliminates the need for ground control points. For the highest possible absolute accuracy, a small number of checkpoints can be used to verify results.
What software does the Matrice 3D work with?
The Matrice 3D integrates natively with DJI FlightHub 2 for mission planning, fleet management, and live monitoring. Imagery is compatible with all major photogrammetry platforms including DJI Terra, Pix4D, Agisoft Metashape, and RealityCapture. RTK output files work with Trimble Business Center and Leica Infinity.
Is the Matrice 3D FAA Part 107 compliant?
Yes, the Matrice 3D is suitable for FAA Part 107 commercial operations. Pilots must hold a valid Remote Pilot Certificate. For BVLOS dock-based operations, a separate FAA waiver is required. Our team can advise on BVLOS compliance pathways.
